Start with the bag you already own.
A short trip should leave room for the things you are looking forward to. Before buying a new bag or a matching set of organizers, lay out what you need and see how well your current bag handles it. This checklist is a starting point for a three-day getaway; adjust it for the weather, activities and laundry options.
1. Plan three days, not three separate wardrobes
Choose clothes that work together and count what you will actually wear, including your travel outfit. A simple starting list is below. Add or remove pieces for your own needs rather than treating the quantities as a rule.
- Two or three tops and one or two bottoms, including what you wear while travelling.
- Fresh underwear and socks for each day, sleepwear, and a layer suited to the forecast.
- Comfortable shoes you can wear for most activities; bring a second pair only if the trip calls for it.
- A small set of toiletries, your usual personal essentials, and any documents you need.
- Phone, the chargers you will actually use, and a way to keep their cables together.
- A separate bag for worn clothing and, if needed, an outfit for a specific activity.
Check your accommodation before packing a towel or other bulky items. If you are flying, confirm your airline's current size and weight limits and the applicable baggage rules before you leave.
2. Measure the space inside your bag
A bag's capacity in litres does not tell you exactly which organizer will fit. Measure its usable interior length, width and depth, including narrow corners and pockets. Compare those measurements with the specific cube, toiletry bag or device sleeve you are considering.
Try a practice pack with the things you already own. If the bag closes comfortably and you can reach what you need, you may not need another accessory at all. Leave a little space for the return journey.
3. Give clean and worn clothes separate places
Packing cubes can help group outfits or keep small items together. Compression does not remove the weight of your clothes, and overfilling a cube can make the packed shape harder to fit. Start with one or two useful organizers rather than assuming every piece of a large set is necessary.

4. Keep the small things easy to reach
Put your everyday toiletries together, with anything that might leak contained appropriately. A toiletry bag is an organizer, not a guarantee against spills. Keep travel documents accessible and avoid burying your charging cable beneath clothes.
For a tablet or laptop sleeve, compare your device's full dimensions, including any case, with the sleeve's interior measurements. A screen-size label alone is not a fit guarantee. Our travel tech collection includes product-specific fit information and limitations.
5. Add only what the activities call for
A beach stop might call for a towel, a dry change of clothes and a separate place for sandy items. A city weekend might call for a small day bag instead. Ask a tour operator what it supplies before buying equipment from its packing list.
For water activities, follow the operator's equipment and safety guidance. A travel accessory is not safety equipment. Do not assume a roll-top bag, insulated sleeve or water-resistant fabric is suitable for submersion; check the exact product's limitations.
A final check before you zip up
- Can you reach the things you will need in transit?
- Does the packed bag close without forcing the zipper?
- Have you allowed for worn clothing and the return trip?
- Have you checked the forecast, booking details and carrier requirements?
- Are you buying something that solves a specific packing problem?
